Having accurate information is crucial for making the right decisions. And asking questions is the best form of getting information. If I get an opportunity for an information interview with a senior leader in my organization, I would love to ask them three interesting questions. To my mind, these questions are basic but extremely important.

Q1. What is the work culture in the organization?

This question would help me gauge whether my personality fits the organization. Being a part of a hyper-politicized or toxic work culture would not serve me well, and my poor performance would hurt the organization’s objectives.

Q2. If I performed well at this company, where could I expect to be in 5 years?

This question would help me understand how the organization’s promotion line functions. And what kind of opportunities I would get to excel at the organization. This is important for expectation setting, as being aware of the policies would help in setting the right expectations, and it would leave little room for disappointment.

Q3. What special advice do you have for a student seeking to qualify for a career in the advertising industry?

This question would help in getting to know the expectations and the qualifications required by the employer for hiring an employee. I would like to know about the skills, certification, and experience needed to qualify for a position in this industry.

While all these questions sound very basic but these are very important for having a good employee-company fit and a fruitful happy work life.
